5 Simple ways to dress during the rains 16/12/2014

An old adage says "When it rains, it pours" so it's that time of the year when the rain falls at any time, anyday. And rather than reducing, it has become even more aggressive, pouring almost everyday. Therefore as you step out of the house, the last thing you would want to think about is getting caught in the rains. This is because moving about in wet socks, muddy shoes and drenched clothes can spoil what should have been a bright day.

Although rains could make it incredibly challenging to dress for in a country like Nigeria, there are tips for getting that simple, smart rainy day look. Crystalbeds.com, Africa’s premier online hotel booking site shares useful points on how you can dress comfortably to 'beat' the downpour.

Keep it simple and real with dark colours: At this time of the year, wearing anything white may not be the best choice. Hence to stay clean all day, darker coloured outfits should be paired with eachother. Black is a good choice as this colour will show little signs of dirt or mud. You can also wear long sleeves and lightweight sweaters made from materials that are quick to dry. They should also be a frequent choice.

Always have your umbrella handy: It can be frustrating to carry extra load around all day. But during the rainy season, carrying an umbrella is not an option because for that period, it is your reliable companion. If you want to add a little class to your dressing, a cute umbrella can also be an accessory. Plus there’s really no reason to stick to the regular black colour. Buy at least 2 or 3 in your favourite colours and use them to enhance your look.

Have a few rubber shoes: Rubber shoes are perfect for the rainy season. They’re perfect because they do not get spoilt by water and can be easily cleaned.  Rubber shoes or sandals can be worn anywhere, even to work! If you work, you can wear rubber shoes to work and change into your work shoes when you get to the office.

Get raincoats: Raincoats are water resistant materials that protect you from the rain. You can always have them in your bag so you can make use of them when the rains begin. It is important that you also get for your children.

Wear clothes that dry quickly: For this season, wear clothes that will dry up quickly if you get drenched by the rain to avoid getting your day messed up because wet clothes can cause serious embarrassment.
